-Bilingualism: The relationship between bilingualism and children’s cognitive development/ metalinguistic awareness, Bialystok’s theory of analysis of linguistic knowledge and control of attention, bilingual education of Arabic-speaking children as minority around the world. 
-Forensic Linguistics: Analysis of language in relation to crime, the law and terrorism. 
-Discourse Analysis: Academic genre analysis, comparing and contrasting Arabic discourse markers with their parallels in English (e.g., but vs. lakin, thus vs. le’thalik) 
-Language acquisition: First v. second language acquisition, the critical period hypothesis (CPH), Universal Grammar (UG), personality factors, etc.
 -English for specific purposes (ESP): Needs assessment, ESP/ESL program design/evaluation, with special focus on English for security purposes. 
-Security translation: Focus on security terminology and text.
